Introduced by Rep. Bettie Scott (D) on September 15, 2009, to reduce from 100,000 to 60,000 the number of students that qualify a school district as a “school district of the first class,” a statutory device to prohibit an expansion of charter schools in Detroit. Also, to elect seven of the Detroit schools board on the basis of geographic districts, with four at-large members. Note: The Detroit district has lost tens of thousands of students in recent years, and fell below the 100,000 threshold in 2008.

I would think the parents of children in the Detroit school district would be up in arms about the condition of the educations system available to their children. How long do these poor kids have to put up with being used as pawns in a political game. It's about time these people got vouchers or educational tax credits so they can get their kids out of that God awful public school system.
