Introduced by Rep. Paul Opsommer (R) on June 2, 2009, to require that all new state buildings meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards, and that 25 percent of existing ones be renovated to this standard by 2021. Also, to require state buildings to generate a small part of the electricity they use, and require that at least 10 percent of state vehicles use “alternative energy” by 2022.

New state buildings, renovation of existing buildings, and state vehicles should use the best technology to provide the desired service at the lowest cost. Forcing "alternative fuels", particular building standards, and the "generation of a small amount of energy used" are all guaranteed to increase costs. Regulations forcing higher costs is exactly what this State needs to reduce and eliminate. Let's eliminate this one before it hits our budget and taxpayers.
