Introduced by Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D) on April 22, 2009, to allow an adult foster care home resident or a resident's legal representative to use audio or visual electronic monitoring devices in nursing home rooms to monitor a resident’s care, under certain circumstances. The bill authorizes the use of recordings from such a device as evidence in a civil or criminal trial in which abuse of residents is alleged, and authorizes criminal penalties for a foster care home that prohibits or tampers with such a device or recordings.

I think this is a great bill and I hope it passes. Elder abuse is a huge, heartbreaking issue and I think it would be very useful to have electronic monitoring in nursing facilities. If people aren't doing anything wrong to these patients, they shouldn't have anything to worry about by being on camera. Often, these elderly people don't have anyone from outside the facility to advocate for them and to check on them so this recording would help hold people accountable for their actions in the event of a wrongful death.
