Introduced by Rep. Brian Calley (R) on April 1, 2009, to mandate that employers grant 10 days of leave to the spouse or parent of a member of the U.S. military reserves or national guard called to active duty (not including training). The bill does not mandate the leave be paid but does require that any benefits be continued during the leave time.

Amendment offered by Rep. Justin Amash (R) on May 6, 2009, to establish that if an employee eligible for the leave mandated by this bill already has accrued leave time, he or she must use that first. The amendment failed by voice vote in the House on May 6, 2009.
