Introduced by Rep. Matt Lori (R) on February 18, 2009, to revise the conditions that apply when a court orders a person convicted of certain drunk driving offenses to have an ignition interlocking device installed. (These devices prevent the car from starting if the person has a blood alcohol content that exceeds a certain level.) The bill would restrict driving only to work, school or alcohol treatment program.

If I understand this bill revision correctly then the ignition interlock device would only allow them to go to work, school or a treatment center. Do we have the technology avalable to do such a thing? How would the device know in advanced where the person was going?

Being able to prevent someone from driving if they are drunk would be a great deterant to accidents and potential deaths but at what cost to freedom as a whole? Individuals who abuse their freedom should have consequences but where do we draw line?
