Introduced by Rep. Lorence Wenke (R) on April 22, 2008, to require legislators to pay 25 percent of the cost of the health benefits the state provides them, and eliminate a statutory provision granting legislators $2,500 annual expense allowances. Note: Although it is not mandated by statute, the legislature currently gives members a $12,000 annual expense allowance, in addition to their $79,650 salary, health insurance and post-retirement health care benefits.

It is about time someone in the legislature had the idea that its members should cut back expenses the way the average citezens have been forced to cut back.
