Introduced by Sen. Glenn Anderson (D) on November 27, 2007, to give local governments the authority to exempt disabled veterans whose income is less than twice the federal poverty rate from property tax liability on any property owned by the veteran.

As a local treasurer, I will tell you that this is a question that comes up a lot. As long as there is something available to confirm service-connected disability, I think local governments will be behind this. All that we can do now is reduce taxes for disabled vets who have government-paid housing adaptations. The current law is very limiting. This is better.
