Introduced by Sen. Tupac Hunter (D) on September 19, 2007, to impose a new coverage mandate that would require health insurance companies to include in all their policies coverage for treatments related to autism, without requiring any dollar limit, deductible or co-pay for these that does not apply to other disorders.
Referred to the Senate Health Policy Committee on September 19, 2007.
1) Senate Bill 784 and 785 by geekgurl64 on April 20, 2008 I hope all families that have a child or know of a child with autism contact their local Senator to have them support these bills. Both bills will be voted on Tuesday, April 22nd. My local Senator, Sanborn, emailed me stating he will not support this bill. My son was diagnosed in February 2008 with Aspergers Syndrome. We have Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance and they will not cover any autism treatment. How insane!?!?!? Autism is NO different than someone with a brain tumor, cancer or struggling with mental health issues. All should be covered by insurance companies!! Reply

3) It just frustrates me ... by Jennybegone on December 9, 2007 It just frustrates me to know that someone who has autism or some other form of mental illness is not getting the care they deserve. It should be a God-given right, not a privilege given by the legislature, the governor, the Feds or by the insurance companies, that someone in that condition should get treatment, no questions asked. We as a society have a moral, and it should be a legal one as well, to help those who cannot help themselves. If we turn our backs now, we run the risk of being like Nazi Germany. Do we really want that? Reply
