1) Automatic Dishwashers  by Anonymous Citizen on February 7, 2007
Phosphorous has already been removed from all if not most of the handwashing detergents, but there is a small problem with the automatic dishwasher types. To function properly, the automatic dishwashers require a certain amount of phosphorus. We can limit it (as I buy one that has the lowest possible - just look at the back panel informatio), but until we find a better replacement, it may be hard to have an outright ban. There is a great deal of difference in the phosphorus content between brands.

I do agree, there are bigger issues out there that we should be focusing on. But phosphorus is a big problem to lakes and groundwater. Lets reduce for now, and find solutions before banning it alltogether.
