Introduced by Rep. Mark Meadows (D) on December 6, 2007, to revise the responsibilities for selecting the hospitalization, medical coverage, dental, and vision insurance coverage plans for retired state employees, so that the Department of Management and Budget has the sole responsibility for this, rather than jointly selecting the plans with the Michigan Civil Service Commission.
Referred to the House Retiree Health Care Reforms Committee on December 6, 2007.
Reported in the House on December 13, 2007, with the recommendation that the substitute (H-1) be adopted and that the bill then pass.
1) HB 5545 by Anonymous Citizen on February 6, 2008 As a state retiree, I am very concerned and upset about this bill. The State Employees Retirement Association is opposed and I agree with their reasons. Why change what is not broken. Apparently is is being done only to try to reduce the retiree health benefits. I worked for 33 years for the state and now count on my helath benefits in this later part of my life.
Keeping this as is does not guarantee that our health insurance is not reduced, but at least the retirement board has a good working relationship with Civil Service and it has been a successful working relationship. Please do not pass this bill. Reply
