Introduced by Rep. Paul Opsommer (R) on August 21, 2007, to allow and establish regulations for “net metering” by public electric utilities. “Net metering” applies to a customer who both generates some electricity which is fed back into the power grid, and also buys some power from the utility. The customer would then be billed for the amount of electricity that is purchased, minus the amount that is sold back.
Referred to the House Energy and Technology Committee on August 21, 2007.
1) Pass net metering by Anonymous Citizen on November 14, 2007 Michigan with it's abundant wind resources should be encouraging people to invest in wind energy by ofering tax incentitives. but at very least they should begin by passing a solid net metering law that would make it more benificial for people to invest in this technology.
2) Small Manufacturers need this bill passed by jalicki on October 11, 2007 My furniture company is attempting to move toward sustainability in all areas of manufacturing. We are using sustainably harvested wood products and recycled components in our furniture products and we have installed highly energy efficient heating and lighting in our facility. We are purchasing renewable energy credits to offset our carbon emissions from our executive air travel and vehicle use, and all electricity and natural gas used in manufacturing. We own a 36,000 sq ft. facility in Zeeland, where the winds are off Lake Michigan are strong. We want to put up a wind generators that will allow us to move forward and market ourselves as a fully sustainable company. We want to set an example to all of the state and lead the furniture industry toward a sustainable future, but this is financially difficult because net metering legislation is not in place. Small companies like ours need net metering to be competitive in the green marketplace. Please vote in favor of this bill.

3) Tell the electric company by Anonymous Citizen on August 29, 2007 TO stop sticking it to us start there. There has to be open competition like there was with the phone so people get a better rate.My electric was seventy some dolllars and the majority of my bill was taxes and usage fees the actual electricity use was only thirty some dollars.I burn a wood boiler to heat my hot water and heat my home in the winter we use energy smart lights and do everything we can to keep the bill down. Then they raise your per kilowatt rate because you're not using as much it's a rip- off in our area consumers power company has a monopoly the government needs to open it up and encourage other companies to come in and make it so there is competition. They did this with the phone companies and I think the consumer has benefited rather well.
