Introduced by Rep. Mark Meadows (D) on March 6, 2007, to prohibit sentencing an individual convicted as a juvenile to imprisonment for life without the possibility of parole. This is the maximum penalty in Michigan law and is only imposed for the most serious crimes of violence.

I wonder what this bills' passes of chancing are now that a 16 year old is charged with killing an Oak Park policeman?

In my opinion, it would be sick and wrong if this punk got a chance at parole after only 10 years. He deserves prison until death.

Rep. Emmons, having reserved the right to explain her protest against the passage of the bill, made the following statement:

“Mr. Speaker and members of the House:

This legislation was not properly vetted and the committee structure ignored evidenced by the fact the bill was discharged from committee. Therefore I cannot support.”
