Introduced by Rep. Bruce Caswell (R) on February 13, 2007, to cap attorney contingency fees in personal injury or wrongful death lawsuits using a sliding scale based on the net amount recovered, ranging from 33 percent of the first $1 million, and only 10 percent of the amount over $5 million. Contingency fees allow a lawyer to take a case and only receive payment if damages are awarded.

how dare the legislature try to cap the earnings of a hard working tort attorney???

most of the legislators are/were attorneys themselves.

how could they do this???

while they are at it, why don't they tax the 'earnings' before the attorney gets his share? THAT would bring in millions to the state coffers.
