Introduced by Sen. Tom George (R) on July 26, 2006, to prohibit selling cigarettes to consumers in Michigan without a new "cigarette retailer" license established by the bill. Also, to prohibit cigarette manufacturers to sell directly to retailers. They would have to only to licensed wholesalers, who would then sell them to licensed retailers. The bill also imposes new disclosure and reporting requirements on these entities, and on internet or mail order cigarette sales.
Referred to the Senate Commerce and Labor Committee on July 26, 2006.
1) Sometimes it is! Human nature is a funny thing. by Anonymous Citizen on August 10, 2006 We are all connected. The actions of one can affect many. There are great parents. There are those that really could stand the handbook or a license or a test or a lot more birth control. It's time to ween the population off cigarettes. I don't care how they do it. I support a smoke free society and will support any legislation that moves us closer toward that goal. A good leader would do that even though it is not the popular thing to do. Good leadership is NOT a popularity contest. Leave that for high school. This is the real world, life, the bigtime. A girl I went to high school with is a credit counselor. She said the TWO THINGS people won't give up spending money out of their budget on is weekly church contributions and cigarette consumption. Doesn't matter if they have to declare bankruptcy or they don't have proper health care for their child. They won't give them up. Something to think about. There are parents making poor choices to smoke around their kids and not saving for college or providing proper health care for their children because of cigarette consumption. I am saddened by this. It is wrong. Reply
