1) Sweden vs USA by Anonymous Citizen on September 19, 2006 You hit the nail on the head in the first 2 sentences of your post. Why does Sweden have great literacy rates -- they value books and they read. Parents read to their children and they ensure that their children have access to lots of good books. We, as a nation, have unfortunately lost sight of those two things. We'd rather park our children in front of the tv or Game Boy than spend time reading to and with them. How sad for us.
