Introduced by Rep. David Law (R) on March 30, 2006, to place before voters in the next general election a Constitutional amendment to give the state House and Senate the authority to dock the pay of members who have unexcused absences on session days. The measure does not specify what constitutes a legitimate excuse. Note: This web site contains a Missed Votes Report that shows the number of roll call votes missed by each current legislator, and a link to a list of the particular votes. The missed votes for past legislators can be looked up on the advanced searches page.
Referred to the House Oversight, Elections and Ethics Committee on March 30, 2006.
1) Representative Pay [by Mike Hignite on April 5, 2006] I have a question about the whole concept of paying legislators at all, but this is a good start. If you don't show up, you don't get paid.
My rep, Joe Hune, has a perfect voting record and will keep all the $79K and $12 expenses
My senator, Valde Garcia, wasn't there for 12 of the 113 days so he would owe us around $8,300 for salary and $1,275 for expenses for days he wasn't voting.
There is no reason for these reps to have pensions at all. Those monies should be stricken right out of the budget.
