Introduced by Rep. Chris Kolb (D) on May 10, 2005, to require appliance recyclers to remove mercury from discarded appliances before disposal. Also, to require appliance recyclers to receive training in identifying, removing, and recycling appliance components that contain mercury.
Referred to the House Natural Resources, Great Lakes, Land Use, and Environment Committee on May 10, 2005.
1) No proof this is needed by Anonymous Citizen on May 13, 2005 Why is this Bill needed? Is there any documentation that the tiny amount of mercury contained in some range safety valves is creating an environmental issue? This Bill will add additional costs to consumers when they want to dispose of an old range. We appliance dealers will have to insure that there are no mercury containing parts in a range that we are sending off to the recycler. This cost will be passed on to the customer. This is a solution in search of a problem to fix. I urge opposition to it. Reply
