Introduced by Sen. Mark Schauer (D) on April 21, 2004, to establish November 26 as "Sojourner Truth Day" in Michigan. Sojourner Truth was an African American woman who lived in Battle Creek and who campaigned for the abolition of slavery before the Civil War, and for the establishment of equal rights for women before her death in 1883.
