To update various provisions of the state crime victim’s rights act to reflect changes and experience since the law was first adopted in 1985. This and related laws adopted pursuant to a 1988 Constitutional amendment establishes various rights of crime victims, including the right to be treated with fairness and respect for their dignity and privacy; to timely disposition of the case following arrest of the accused; to be reasonably protected from the accused throughout the criminal justice process; to notification of court proceedings; to attend the trial and other court proceedings; to confer with the prosecution; to make a statement to the court at sentencing; to restitution; and to information about the conviction, sentence, imprisonment, and release of the accused.
