Introduced by Rep. Doug Hart (R) on February 5, 2003, to require that the MEAP social studies assessment test results be used in qualifying for state merit award scholarships. Note: The social studies test was not included when the scholarship was created due to the fact that many legislators considered it to be too “politically correct.” As introduced, House Bill 5881 in the 2001-2002 legislative session would have replaced the social studies assessment test with a civics test, including American and Michigan history and government.
Referred to the House Higher Education Committee on February 5, 2003.
1) meap social studies by Anonymous Citizen on February 9, 2003 This bill should be killed in committee again.
The social studies MEAP questions must be aligned with the federal curriculum under NO Child Left Behind and which was developed under the Clinton administration. The federal curriculum is in line with Clinton thinking. The MEAP asks children their political opinions on such things as Women in Combat and free trade. Our children should not be tested on their political opinions Reply
