2009 House Bill 5263

Expand property tax poverty waivers

Introduced in the House

Aug. 19, 2009

Introduced by Rep. Shanelle Jackson (D-9)

To increase the income threshold that allows a local government to defer forfeiture proceedings against a property owner with delinquent property tax. Under current law the threshold is the “federal poverty standards” or whatever amount a local government chooses above that amount. The bill would raise this to 200 percent of the poverty level.

Referred to the Committee on Urban Policy

Oct. 13, 2009

Reported without amendment

With the recommendation that the substitute (H-1) be adopted and that the bill then pass.
